Hi Mark, I hope you don't rush the release of v5, because I still have suggestions! Are you planning to develop Araneae as an all-around text editor? With syntax highlighting for most of the popular languages? For ASP files, all the script lines are just colored red, and that isn't very helpful. Maybe you can add user-configurable keywords for syntax highlighting.

Araneae 5 will support many different syntax highlighting schemes.

Hey Mark, can you put in a syntax hilighting feature for "Bad Tags"?

I suppose that's possible, although it won't be well suited to XHTML where you can have tags from other namespaces, etc. I'll think about it.

hmmmm...maybe you could add an option for toggling XML mode on or off in order to allow the program to recognize bad tags or not.

if Araneae 5 isn't highlighting your document, it's most likely because it doesn't know what type of document it is. Normally Araneae detects your type of document type by its file extension, but not all documents are recognized off-the-bat. Click on the "File" menu and select the document type from the list of available documents. Once a new document type is selected, Araneae will apply its syntax highlighting rules to your file. (There are also more document types are available for download online from the Araneae site, if you don't happen to see the kind you're working on).

Once you select a document type, Araneae will remember it the next time you open the same file. If you'd like to permanently assign a document type to a specific file extension, that can be done from the options screen as well. You'll find it under the "File Extensions" section of the Options screen, which is available from the Tools menu.
