Mark (or whoever might be able to help),

Don't get me wrong; I really like Web Album Generator. It's the only photo album generator that I actually have continued to use for any length of time. I tend to be demanding with my software, and this utility is a must-have on all my computers!

That said, the tool does a mediocre at best job with compression and resizing of both images and thumbnails. The images come out very grainy yet look crystal clear when I generate them from either IrfanView or Photoshop. As for the thumbnails, they are sometimes so garbled that it's hard to get a sense of what the real photo even looks like! This has festered in my mind for some time, and it's tarnishing my impressions of what should be a fantastic tool.

Is the user able to specify an alternate tool for use in resizing and compression, or barring that, at least to tweak the compression settings used by Web Album Generator? Or could the compression engine be updated with something that works better? Something needs to be done. To me, this is really the only major thing wrong with the program... and yes, I can (and often do) generate my own images by hand, but the whole point of the generator is to make album creation as painless as possible, and regenerating all my photos and thumbnails outside the software goes against this principle.

Can I beg and plead you into helping on this front? If so, you'll have a VERY satisfied user and a friend for life. X-D

I very much regret not including a feature to specify a custom compression ratio for the photos and thumbnails. Although I think the current setting is appropriate, not everyone shares my love of compression.

A customizable compression ratio is definitely planned for the next version. In the meantime, any thumbnail generator that allows you to customize the output filenames should be able to overwrite the images generated by Web Album Generator.

As always, if you would like to be notified of the release of the next version of Web Album Generator, feel free to sign up for the Web Album Generator Announcement List.

For the large images I have been using the original size option. Does WAB modify the large images in any way when this is chosen?
