I'm thinking it happens on resume from standby. Winxp sp3.

    Am I alone?

I can't say I've heard of this happening before. Are you sure it's not just being temporarily hidden? Often Windows will hide icons that haven't been interacted with for a while. You can generally show them again by clicking the little left-pointing arrow beside the system tray.

Nup, no alarm, late for my appt., I investigate, CAC is no longer running! That icon is one I have marked as "always show" also.

Suffice it to say I found out the hard way. I would typically think this was an isolated incident but it happened on my Asus netbook also. Fortunately that missed alarm was not as important!

Both machines running XP SP3, latest updates. I've put the desktop in S3 standby mode twice in the last several hours testing the sleep mode theory and it's still running. Will report back with anything else it might be.

If Citrus isn't running at all, then it might be due to system restarts. If you have Windows configured to do system updated automatically, it will nearly always automatically restart the computer overnight after performing its system updates.

If this is the case, then make sure you have Citrus start automatically with Windows and that the login screen is bypassed and the computer boots straight into the desktop.

I only restart machine manually. Updates are done manually also.

What I did notice is the disappearing act went away when I changed my machine BIOS from the default S1 sleep state to be able to use S3 for stand-by mode.

    Strange, but true.

Posted this as a "FWIW" in case the issue ever arises again!
