How to Put Web Album on Website (14 posts)
-
I feel like a dummy right now but I can't get my web album onto my site. I can upload the album to my site but I can only add links, text, photos or html to my web pages. What do I need to add the album? If it was a file with a gif or jpg extension I could add it. If it was html I could add it. I must be missing something because I can't figure it out.

You'll need to upload several files for your web album to work online. After you run the 'Album Generation Wizard', you should find some files and folders where you chose to generate the album. All of these will need to be uploaded to your site. This consists of several .html files, several .jpg files, and two .css files.
It's fairly straightforward but not trivial, so I may add a feature to upload these files automatically in a future version of Web Album Generator. -
After I upload all of those files, then what do I do. Uploading them alone will not put anything on my website. I need to do something with them after I upload them. What is it?
Thanks in advance. -
The actual procedure depends on whoever is providing the space for your web site, but most sites do not need any steps beyond uploading the files.

If you do add a feature to automatically upload the files to the website, PLEASE make it optional. my website is local, so I just copy the files without using FTP, so automatically uploading the files wouldn't work for me...Just a thought.

I was glad to see that there is somebody else who admits to being a dummy regarding the uploading of this album.
I feel totally stupid, but I have tried every which way, but cannot make it work. First it was the "index" page, which made for a second index page on the website. I changed the name! Then I am having trougle with the photographs and thumbnails which are refused because of file extension.
I am now totally confused, but love the album the way it looks on my computer.
Please, somebody help with more detailed instructions to get it on my web site!!

I love the web album generator, it looks excellent but i am having the same problem as others being a newcomer to web site design.
If anyone can help i would appreciate it very much.
regards and thanks for the Web album generator. -
Hi Stewabma,
The index pages can't be renamed easily, or the links between pages will no longer work. If you want to avoid overwriting files, you can create a subfolder in which to put all your web album files. -
I love this program.... a friend of mine who writes various software recommended it to me...... everything looks great, albums, template and all.....
Now I wanna add it to my site......... I do not want an album to be index.html.......... i already have index.html
I want it to be like....... album1.html album2.html ( or whetever the extention is)
so please......... what do i have to do........???????
Ok, so i can start an IV line but I can't use the web album generator, go figure.
U can email me personally if u know how to do this....dirtyangel@viberate.org

Come on computer girls and boys, I haven't had the pleasure of trying this software (I will, i installed it a few clicks ago), but have used something similair before.
You can use more then 1 file called index.html
You need to create sub-directories to your root-directory (where your index.html already exists, if you have a site). In this subdir you put the new index.html and all files which the tool generates.
Make a link in your index.html to <your site>/subdir
Not very High Tech
Voila!

The question remains: how to get back?
This is also being dicussed in another thread here. The only answer at this point is to manually place the code for the link back to whatever page you specify.
Example:
<p class="footnote">Back to the <a href="photoalbum.htm">Photo Album Index</a></p>
<p class="footnote">Generated by <a href="http://www.ornj.net/">Web Album Generator</a></p> -
I achieve this by using a frameset.
In your root directory, create an index.html with a frameset, and (eg) a side menu that loads the targets into the main frame. Then, for each subdirectory containing an album, add a link.
For an example, see http://www.steveshipway.org/album/
