I want to know if this project is or isn't dead. I want to know when you add the possibility for UTF8 savings. Thank you

is araneae dead? (16 posts)

I wouldn't say it's dead... maybe in cryogenics.
I've switched development tools since I wrote Araneae, so there's unlikely to be upgrades until I decide to rewrite the whole thing in a more modern architecture. That'll only happen if there's enough demand, and right now I haven't been hearing much enthusiasm for it from users.

That's a little sad.
It's a pretty nifty little text editor. I've been using it for a few years now and love it. There are the occasional bug (search doesn't work too well, can't switch between tabs via CTRL+TAB) but it's ninja fast and doesn't bog down the OS even on mega slow machines.
I'll admit I occasionally need to use a more advanced editor such as NotePad++ but for day to day coding activities I don't see me moving from Aranaea any time soon.

I still use it myself, so I share a ton of the feature wishes. (Utf-8 support in particular, now that I often work in another language.) I too think that most other text editors are a little too involved (I even felt that way back in 1998 when I wrote Araneae 1.0). But really, I don't get much feedback for it anymore.

You don't get suggestions because you've got it right

This is the only editor that I use. I really wouldn't change anything but there is one addition I would like.
I've made my own personal clip library. Now if i could change the shortcut keys to my clips then it would be perfect.
Other than that, let it be.

You can already assign shortcut keys to your own clips.
The shortcut keys become active when a quick clip library is associated with the active document type. (That way pressing ctrl+B when editing an HTML document, for example, invokes the HTML bold clip, and an XHTML document invokes the XHTML strong clip.)
Of course, you can't really assign shortcut keys that are already assigned to menu items, but I encourage you to take a look at some of the included clips and see how they're done.

"The shortcut keys become active when a quick clip library is associated with the active document type."
Oh my gosh. I had created a separate clip file for mine. It worked when I clicked on them, but it didn't register why the shortcuts didn't work. I moved them to the XHTML clip file and now Araneae is perfect. And this whole time...
Thanks Mark for a wonderful piece of software.

every month i will go to this website to check for araneae updates...
hope to see and use a new upgraded version of araneae..
aranaeae is the best! -
I would love to see a Mac OS X version of Araneae -- I used it for all my web development when I was on my PC and miss it dreadfully. Taco HTML just doesn't replace Araneae's functionality.

I love araneae. What about a minimap plugin or native feature like Sublime Text and jEdit though?
-
I'm not sure what a minimap is. Care to clarify?

Hi,
we have been using Araneae for more than 5 years now and still do so. Hope it will continue. "We" that is 5 persons.
Best regards

Araneae must continue!
