Hi. I'm trying to create a playlist for Citrus Alarm to load into Winamp for my morning alarm. I created an m3u playlist using winamp, and saved it to C:\Users\*****\Music\wakeup.m3u. I create an alarm with that playlist, and check "Use external media player for alarm." When I test the alarm, I get the popup screen, an error from the taskbar saying the file is corrupt or there's no codec installed. All of the files in the playlist as well as the m3u file itself play fine from within Winamp, and they also play fine when double-clicked right from Windows Explorer. Further, if I bypass the playlist and specify one specific media file in the alarm, that one file tests fine. I have tested storing the playlist file right on the root of C: just in case Citrus Alarm didn't like something about the path to my personal music folder, but the behavior remains the same.

No playback even with external player (15 posts)

Thanks for the report. I haven't been able to reproduce this issue on my own machine, but I'll try it again with WinAmp instead of Windows Media Player and see what can be done to get this error to appear.
In the meantime, does the playlist work when the Citrus is used to play its own media instead of using the external media player?

Hi Mark. Yes this appears to work. Most of my media is in .flac or .ape format, which is the reason I have to use WinAmp. It took me a while to dig out an mp3, hehe.
BTW - the specific error I get from the system tray icon is, "MCI Error Code: 277". It also says something about bad file associations, but as I mentioned above double-clicking the playlist from windows explorer works fine, so this is an odd error.
BTW - I'm on Vista 64, but you could probably tell it's vista from my user path.

I just did a little more testing. It seems that Citrus Alarm doesn't want to deal with any playlist that includes files in a format that it doesn't recognize. Was I mistaken in thinking that it's able to pass any media files to my external player? Playlists with mp3 files work fine, but playlists of .ape or .flac error out.

Oops sorry. Just noticed I didn't log in when I posted the above two comments.

Thanks for the extra information. When dealing with an external media player, it shouldn't matter what's in the playlist. I'll continue to look into this.

Hey Mark. Is there any way to have this system email me when there are replies to my topics? It'd be so much easier than coming back to check on the thread every day.
-
There's a link in the sidebar near the start of the topic that says "Add this topic to your favourites." If you do that, you can get an RSS feed of all your "favourite" topics from your profile page. Most email readers support RSS feeds now, so if you subscribe to the RSS feed you'll be notified whenever a new post is made.
It's not technically email, but it works the same way.

You wouldn't happen to be running the last.fm player would you? I get the same error if I have that running in the background.

Nope don't have that Zabaron. This is a recent install of Windows, too, so no chance of old traces laying around.
-
Ack. Did it again.

Heh, the anonymous posting is new to the forum; I think it'll encourage more questions, but it also seems to encourage login mistakes. (I've posted messages as anonymous by accident, but thankfully I also have moderator privileges and can fix that without anyone being the wiser. ;-))
I'll see if there's a way to better clarify if you're logged in or not when it comes time to post. But, for now, if you're asked to do math before posting, then you're not logged in.

It would seem Xfire is causing the same issue for me.

"I think it'll encourage more questions, but it also seems to encourage login mistakes."
I think you're right on both counts about this. hehe.

Mark,
I've been using Citrus every day for probably 3 years now, however am upset that I can't wake up to FLAC files. I've recently replaced most of my mp3's with FLAC, however receive the same error as described in this thread on Vista 64. I've attempted to add a blank 2 second mp3 for the first file of the playlist to try and get it to play in my external player, however that resulted in the same error.
Help! I don't want to have to look for another alarm clock--EVER!
