    It would be very useful for there to be a button or menu option that would replace special HTML characters without any dialog boxes, like the following:

    < with &lt;
    > with &gt;

    Other people might want to replace " with &quot; (but I don't) or some other random combinations, so it would help if the tool were eventually made customizable.

    IMHO, the tool should only replace within the selected text, and if no text is selected it should do nothing, to avoid accidental conversion of the document (if people want to use it on the whole document, they can press Ctrl + A beforehand).

    Character replacing features is something I've been thinking about. A selection-based replacement feature makes sense (since automatic conversion would convert characters you probably don't want converted).
