I get this dialog box when Citrus Alarm Clock tries to set an alarm off:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ActiveMovie Window: Citrus Alarm Clock.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x1d1c1b30" referenced memory at "0x212a8be0". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wrote out everything exactly the way it appears on the dialog box. I've received that error every time the program has tried going off on it's own. The only times I don't get the error is while I am setting and testing alarms. It seems as though this error occurs when the program has been idle for a while. Because I never get this error when I manually open the program, only when it tries going off by itself (when an alarm goes off). I also think it may have something to do with the alarm window popping up.

I really need this program to work, I've been lucky enough to have already been awake and ready for a schedule before this error occurs, so as of yet this hasn't caused me any major trouble.

I am running Windows XP pro SP2. Please help, as I really want to use your application instead of ANY other. Thanks.

It looks like this error message is nearly always caused by some misbehaving codecs. I'd recommend uninstalling any codecs that didn't come with your computer.

There's some more information on Google if you're curious about specific codec packs that might be causing the issue, but the following instructions (from this online forum) are probably the best approach to take:

That sounds like a Codec conflict...too many installed codecs.
    To correct this:

-Go to Your Control Panel and select Sound and Audio Devices
    -Click on Hardware
    -Click on Video Codecs
    -Click on Properties

Delete all the codecs you have and start fresh. Install the necessary
codecs as you need them to avoid any conflicts in the future

I will try it, thanks a lot. By the way, removing those codecs won't harm my computer in any way? I got a couple of messages saying "This codec is required by your system......"

It shouldn't cause any system problems to uninstall codecs that didn't come with your computer, but certain music and video may not be able to play afterwards.

If you remove codecs that did come with Windows, it's possible that it could cause some problems because Microsoft includes codecs for some very basic filetypes (MP3, WMA, etc). I think if you're getting a message telling you that your system requires the codec, then you might want to leave it there, just to be safe.

If you've already removed a default codec, then installing (or re-installing) Windows Media Player should put back the missing default codecs (according to this article on the Microsoft website). There are also instructions for manually re-installing the default codecs on this website.

All in all, codecs are somewhat complicated, and it's a shame Windows doesn't make it a little easier to identify non-working ones easily. I hope these instructions work for you!

I removed ALL the codecs, but they just reappear. If I uninstall Windows Media Player, will that help? I never use it, and I have WinAmp as my default media player.

EDIT: Hey mark, I just thought of an idea. How about I select the option to use an external media player? That way, the alarm display/dialog box won't come up when one of my alarms activate. And since the display is set to not come up, wouldn't that stop Citrus from crashing?

Or what if I use a sound file that isn't associated with WMP? I've been using an MP3 file, maybe I can use a WAV and not associate it with WMP. Do you think that will help?

Usually codec issues will cause problems with any software that uses them to play media (including Windows Media Player), but it's worth a shot if nothing else is working.

If the codecs are re-appearing after they're uninstalled, then something suspicious might be going on. Do you have a virus scanner? Also, check in the Add/Remove programs section of the Control panel and check to see if any of the codecs have their own uninstallation program.

I will do that, thank you for the support. Since selecting the option to play the alarm in an external media player, Citrus Alarm Clock hasn't crashed. I'd still like to see the alarm display but only because it looks cool, hahaha. But I'll live without it, no doubt.

It feels good to be able to depend on an alarm clock again. My first Citrus Alarm was all I needed until it started disappearing from my system tray (even when I had it to "Always Show" in the tray), causing me to reboot my computer to bring it back (I think the system tray was the only means to open the Alarm Configurations to turn them off or make new alarms. Even with this latest version, I think you can only access the configuration controls from the system tray, if I'm wrong, please let me know).

Hopefully my problems solved. If so, then this method (selecting external media player) could be used by anyone else who encounters this same problem. I'll keep you posted if this continues to work.

I bought the citrus Alarm version 1.0.5 some several months ago.
my auto update program found the new Citrus Alarm and installed it. but eachtime a message box comes up asking me to re register, I have searched all other forum nitations on this subject and I can not find my original licence or any part of the old version any where in my hard drives. Can you resend my license information or must I re purchase the program again?

There's no need to re-purchase, just send an email with your name to "support" at ornj.net and I'll re-send your license.
