Unable to upload the photos folders. (11 posts)

I have downloaded and just used your Web Album Generator program. It is awesome and so easy to use. I then tried to upload it to my server using SmartFTP. I am able to upload everything but the two image folders. The software just won't see them even though "all files" is selected in "type of files". I don't know if it's a problem with SmartFTP or if I'm messing up. I then uploaded the photos that were in the folders separately. They went up but that didn't work.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ray -

Hi Ray,
I'm not familiar with SmartFTP, but most FTP clients should let you drag and drop the folders into your remote directory. If SmartFTP doesn't allow this, you may have to create the folders yourself (All FTP programs generally have a folder creation button) and copy the images and HTML files into the folders in the same way you did for the other files. -
Hi Mark,
Thank you for replying. I should have posted this before now. I managed to upload with no problem using Cute FTP, a very good and user friendly program. It is free for 30 days. I would not hesitate to buy it if I were to do more of this. I then went back to Smart FTP and fooled around till I found that I could do what you mentioned, create the photo and thumbnail folders manually and then upload the photos to their respective folder.
I think your product is awesome, easy to use and gives great results.
Thank you. -
Hey Ray, when you used CuteFTP, (which I am fortunate to own), how did you get it to the right page you wanted to get your album on when it came to uploading it?
Thanks in advance. -
Hi Joe,
If I understand your question correctly, you are asking me where on your server to upload your page. It depends of course on what your server has given you for web page. As I don't have a working version of Cute FTP anymore, I can't take you through the steps in that programme. Usually servers give you a web page which is their web page followed by /username, in my case it is http://www3.sympatico.ca/plough/
Contact your server and find out what the URL is for personal web pages. That would be the info you would need to enter.
With Cute FTP I recall that in there was a window in the top left corner, asking for the address of the server where the information would be uploaded. I remember having to fool around with it and eventually just had to enter http://www3.sympatico.ca/ Because I had logged in already with my user name and password, it knew that my folder there was plough and I didn't have to enter it as part of the address. When I did, I got an error.
I wish I still had a working copy of Cute FTP so that I might take you through the steps, one at a time but I don't.
When I tried to use it just now, I had to fill out a survey and then I got a message that they would sell it to me for $20 instead of $40 but there are free ones out there and for what I need, I don't need it.
Please let me know if I can be of further help. -
Thanks Ray, but the problem I am having is getting my album on the right page. I have several pages on my website, and when I upload the album, it always goes to the home page, which I don't want it to do. I want it to go to a specific page, like(http://renegade.home.cwis.net/id28.htm). I haven't figured it out yet. But I thank you for your quick response and concern.

Hi Joe,
I recommend creating a folder specifically for your album. That is, instead of "http://renegade.home.cwis.net/id28.htm", you may want to try "http://renegade.home.cwis.net/photoalbum/index.html"
Most FTP programs have a special button or menu item to create a folder for you. Once this folder is created, you can upload your files to it like normal. -
I see what you mean now Joe. I am sorry, don't know the answer. Does Cute FTP not allow you to chose what folder you're going to put it in such as creating one like http://renegade.home.cwis.net/photoalbum/index.html instead of your regular folder?
Maybe Mark, the software designer here and administrator might be able to help, he's been very helpful to me. -
Thanks Ray for all your help.

Hello, Guys,
Using cute FTP, Ihave been confronted to the same issue as you : folders even dragged and dropped, are not created. I'll try to create them on the server and then copy the content and let you know the results .
